Poor Gromitasaurus, he braved Bristol shoppers in the Galleries and got a plaster on his toe for his trouble! Likely to appeal to children going through their dinosaur phase, his fierce eyes don't seem to be scaring them off in the slightest.
We didn't hang around for long because Smiler was having a rough day - he looks more pale in the photo than I had realised at the time, but sometimes he goes downhill pretty quickly . . .
. . . Which brings me back to the purpose of Gromit Unleashed : yes, it's a high profile public art trail; yes, it's a great way to keep the kids occupied during the school holidays; yes, it's a draw for tourists; yes, it's a chance for some local and some national businesses to get a little public exposure. But most importantly of all, Gromit Unleashed, through multiple avenues including iPhone and android apps, merchandising, and of course the eventual auction of the Gromits themselves, is raising money for the Grand Appeal, which supports the Children's Hospital. So if you've been Gromit hunting too, please spare a thought - and some change - for those children who have no choice but to spend time in hospital, and rely on the kindness of strangers of strangers such as yourself to support these causes to help make these stays just a little more bearable.
